TEA CADDY FLEET SERVES UP A REFRESHING HOME DELIVERY SERVICE!

While many people keep their tea in a caddy, the Newcastle-based, family-run tea merchant Ringtons is now delivering its tea in a Caddy – thanks to an order for a fleet of 201 Volkswagen Caddy vans for its home delivery service.

The Volkswagen Caddy fleet will be making door to door deliveries to 270,000 Ringtons customers across the UK every two weeks, covering a total of around 2.5 million miles per annum.  Each Caddy will be black with a 2.0-litre 69 PS SDI engine and for maximum convenience for the drivers, will have parking sensors and twin sliding side doors.

Ringtons ordered the new Caddy fleet from the local Benfield Van Centre in Newcastle along with a fixed-price service and maintenance contract to keep the vehicles in top condition and serviced by fully trained Volkswagen technicians at selected Van Centres from the nationwide Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ network.

Carl Moffett, Finance Director of Ringtons said: ’There are three clear reasons why we chose the Volkswagen Caddy – reliability, competitive whole life costs and driver acceptance.  The last thing we or our customers need is a vehicle off the road, so we need a van that we can completely rely on.  Secondly, a competitive deal and stronger residual values made the Caddy a very cost effective choice, and our drivers have found the Caddy very comfortable and of high quality, so they are extra proud of the vans they drive.’

Chris Blue, National Fleet Manager for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said: ‘This large fleet deal clearly demonstrates the cost effectiveness and durability of Volkswagen vans.  We look forward to seeing the Ringtons tea Caddys on the road across the country.’

The Caddy is the smallest model in the Volkswagen van range, offering a load volume of 3.2 m³ and a payload of between 718 kg and 739 kg, with retail prices (excluding VAT) starting from £11,400.

HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY TO THE WORLD’S MOST POPULAR VAN

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Production of the Volkswagen Transporter van officially started in March 1950 and during the 60 years since then it has become one of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ best-selling models globally, the number one imported van in the UK as well as one of the most iconic and popular vans in the world.

With over 10 million produced, the Volkswagen Transporter has evolved through five generations of functional and practical bodystyles, each representing the ultimate multi-purpose vehicle of its time and loved by business and private users alike for transporting goods or people for work or leisure.  This unique heritage is the focus of the current ‘Evolution of Van’ advertising campaign for the new Transporter which was launched in the UK in January.

The first T1 ‘split-screen’ model was powered by a four-cylinder, air-cooled, 1.1-litre petrol engine mounted at the back of the vehicle.  It produced 25 PS of power and had a top speed of about 60 mph.  By comparison, the new Transporter enjoys the refinement of Volkswagen’s latest 2.0-litre, common rail, turbocharged diesel engine, available with power outputs ranging from 84 PS to 180 PS and a top speed of up to 119 mph, plus the latest stability control systems and braking technology that would have sounded like something from a science fiction novel 60 years ago.

Although the design has evolved over the years, the first and the latest Transporter share the same badge on the front and the same design principles of a generous loadspace and an enviable reputation for quality and durability.

Similarly, comparing the latest Volkswagen California with a T1 campervan shows that both make efficient use of the space available to create a vehicle equally suitable for daily trips to work or the shops, as for weekend escapes or continental capers.

Over the years, Volkswagen Transporters have endured challenging round the world trips by enthusiastic travellers, been used as the preferred choice of travel for rock bands since the 1960s to the present day, and been relied upon by many businesses needing a fleet of delivery or passenger carrying vehicles.

The first Transporter was imported into the UK in 1955, and the latest version of the van as well as today’s people-carrying and campervan versions, the Caravelle and California, arrived in the UK this January, 55 years later.

Volkswagen Crafter Tipper Record Order

Record 71 Orders on VW Crafter Tipper

The environmental credentials of the Crafter’s BlueTDI engines, with emissions beyond the latest Euro5 standards, has helped Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles achieve one of its biggest orders ever for Crafter Tippers – one of the off-the-shelf conversions available from Volkswagen Van Centres.  A total of 71 Crafter Tippers were ordered by specialist horticultural and grounds maintenance service provider, Quadron Services Limited, which is using the Crafters for contracts with local authorities in the Midlands and London.

The vehicles will cover an average of 15,000 miles per annum over a five year lease from HSBC Fleet Management, after which Quadron expects to purchase and run the vehicles for a further five years, making quality and durability also critical to the decision to choose Volkswagen.

The Crafter Tipper is produced by Ingimex, a Volkswagen accredited converter, and every vehicle was fitted with a towbar and a cage or tail lift, before being supplied by Southern Motor Group, the Volkswagen Van Centre based in Croydon.

The environmental credentials of the Crafter’s efficient BlueTDI engines were very important, as Chris Davies, Fleet Manager, Quadron Services Limited, explained:

‘Volkswagen’s BlueMotion Technologies and the Crafter’s low emissions were critical to our decision as our local authority clients are extremely environmentally aware and require us to show the environmental credentials of any vehicle we use.’

A host of mechanical enhancements to reduce fuel consumption and emissions beyond the latest Euro5 standards were introduced with the latest 2010 model year Volkswagen Crafter range.  As a result, the Crafter achieved certification as an EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) – the most exacting European exhaust standard for commercial vehicles.

Emissions of particulates, hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide from the Crafter’s BlueTDI engine are almost half way to meeting the next Euro6 standard.  Volkswagen has achieved this by using a SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) device and AdBlue® system, which is known to be one of the most effective methods of exhaust purification in the commercial vehicle industry – as well as improving the efficiency of the engine.
