JO WHILEY CHOOSES PERFECT FAMILY VEHICLE FOR FESTIVAL FUN
Jo Whiley, Broadcaster and DJ, plus mother of four children, has bought a new Volkswagen Caravelle, which she says is the best family car she has ever had.
The Caravelle has seven seats and is one of Volkswagen’s most spacious and practical full-size people carriers with plenty of luggage space and sliding side doors allowing easy access for passengers. But its star feature is that the two individual rear seats swivel to face the rear bench seat and create a sociable lounge environment complete with a table.
Describing why she chose the Caravelle, Jo Whiley said: ‘It’s perfect for us. There’s so much space for the children and all their gear, which means they’re much happier and our journeys are instantly so much calmer!
‘We tried a Caravelle last summer and thought it was brilliant. We camped in it at festivals and it easily coped taking us all on holiday, so it was our first choice when we wanted a new car – and the new one’s quieter with a better sound system.’
The new Caravelle was launched earlier this year featuring new-look frontal styling in line with the latest Volkswagens, including the new Polo, and interior enhancements including upgraded instrumentation and audio systems, plus the option of a new seven-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox).
To improve fuel economy and lower emissions, the new Caravelle is now powered by Volkswagen’s latest 2.0-litre common rail turbodiesel engine with power outputs of 140 PS or 180 PS. These are more refined and quieter than those they replace and fully comply with Euro5 emissions standards.
‘I know how stressful travelling with children can be, so completely understand why Jo is so happy with her new Caravelle as I drive one with my own young children,’ said Simon Elliott, Director, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
‘The Caravelle is only one of the people carriers with lots of seats and space we offer for families or business travel. We also have the more compact Caddy Maxi Life with seven seats, and even offer up to nine seats in the Transporter Shuttle, Transporter window van and Crafter window van,’ he continued.

In the U.S., production increased 94.3% year-on-year to 48,804 units due to increased demand for all models led by Altima and Maxima.
In Mexico, production was up considerably by 161.1% year-on-year to 38,508 units fueled by robust sales of the Tiida and Sentra.
In the U.K., production increased 68.7% year-on-year to 35,300 units due to increased demand for all models and particularly the brisk sales of the Qashqai.
In Spain, production saw a considerable increase of 148.5% year-on-year to 7,902 units due to increased demand for all the models led by Navara.
In China, production increased 64.0% year-on-year to 62,574 units marking an all-time record for a single month.

UK PRICES CONFIRMED FOR BEST-EVER NISSAN PATHFINDER AND NAVARA
Now available to order, the new Pathfinder and Navara offer far more 4×4 for the money with key enhancements of real customer benefit.
Highly competitive pricing starts at £19,807* (on the road) for the Navara Acenta King Cab. Navara Tekna, available only in Double Cab form, costs from £24,389.50 (on the road) for the manual or £25,682 (on the road) for the automatic. Extra standard features on the Navara Acenta include side and curtain airbags, ESP stability control, front fog lights, new seat cloth, additional cabin storage. On the Navara Tekna, pop-up headlight washers, speed limiter, power fold mirrors, MP3 AUX input all come as standard.
The Pathfinder Acenta 2.5 dCi 190 is priced at £28,495 (on the road). The fully equipped Pathfinder Tekna is available with either a 6-speed manual transmission
(£31,595) or a 5-speed automatic (£33,095). Extra standard features on the Pathfinder Acenta include Fine Vision combimeter for a crisp view of the instrument dials, new centre console and lidded storage box and MP3 AUX input. On the Pathfinder Tekna, Nissan Connect Premium HDD, a sat nav infotainment system with 7-inch colour touch screen, comes as standard as well as new 18-inch wheels, headlight washers, speed limiter and new centre console with wood finish.
More performance, more economy, lower emissions
In its latest guise in both Pathfinder and Navara, the 4-cylinder diesel provides peak power of 190 PS (188 bhp) with peak torque of 450 Nm (332 lb ft), figures which represent an 11% improvement over the previous model. For Navara, this represents class leading power and torque without compromising on fuel consumption or emissions. Either vehicle is now capable of doing 0-62mph in just 10.7 seconds.
Both models have significantly improved performance and fuel economy – fuel consumption improves and CO2 emissions come down, by an average of 15%. For both Pathfinder and Navara, official combined fuel economy is boosted from the outgoing models’ 28.8mpg to 33.2mpg, while CO2 is cut from 264g/km to 224g/km. A drop in CO2 emissions means that Pathfinder drops two tax bands in line with rivals with less power and Navara can include efficiency amongst its long list of attributes.
New look and feel inside and out
A subtle reshaping has resulted in a new bonnet and grille, along with redesigned headlights – now complete with their own pop up washer system (Tekna models only).
Two new body colours are available: Slate and, for the Navara only, Electric Blue.
Inside, enhanced styling embraces new designs, trim and fabrics for the door panels, centre console and seats. There’s a clearer new dashboard display, extra concealed storage tray and reworked switchgear. A simple-to-operate speed limiter has also been incorporated into the cruise control of the Tekna models.
Nissan Connect Premium, a whole new “infotainment” system, replaces both the previous DVD satnav and CD autochanger. The Hard Disk Drive-based system brings state-of-the-art navigation, music storage and playback. The 40 GB satnav offers 3D street-level mapping and extensive POI (points of interest) data. The 9 GB music centre will automatically download and store music from the equivalent of 250 CDs, while also offering full iPod connectivity and a facility for wireless audio streaming using the built-in Bluetooth. The system even includes a reversing camera. And if you get tired of looking backwards you can always pop in a DVD to watch (but only while the vehicle is stationary).
Nissan Connect Premium is standard on Pathfinder Tekna and optional on Navara Tekna at a cost of just £1,300+VAT, the same price as the considerably simpler DVD satnav of the outgoing model.
New V6 diesel engine
A new direct injection V6 turbodiesel has been developed to deliver even higher levels of performance and capability with strong economy, competitive emissions and class-leading refinement.
Power output is 231 PS while the torque output of 550 Nm leads the class. Better still, peak torque is achieved from as low as 1,750 rpm and is available all the way to 2,500 rpm, while as much as 500 Nm is available from a mere 1,500 rpm. Idle speed is an exceptionally low 650 rpm with none of the vibrations and noise usually associated with a diesel.
Prices for the V6 diesel engine will be announced at a later date with deliveries starting in September.

The Transit Sapphire
45 YEARS BIRTHDAY TRANSIT COMES OFF THE LINE AT SOUTHAMPTON
SOUTHAMPTON, Hants, 30 April 2010 – A special edition Transit called ‘Sapphire’ rolled off the line today at Ford’s Southampton plant. At the same time Ford globally celebrated Transit’s 6,000,000 sales milestone with simultaneous celebrations in Southampton, Turkey and China. The UK’s favourite van turns 45 this year, with more than 2.1 million sales in Britain since it was created in 1965.
Ford’s European manufacturing vice president, Ken Macfarlane, handed the keys to the Sapphire to Paul Hendy, managing director of Britain’s first Ford dealer which reaches its own 100 years milestone this year. The Hendy Group sells around 3,000 Transits a year, Paul Hendy said: “Transit has been an integral part of the business for many years. As one of the country’s leading suppliers of Transit we are thrilled to be involved in such a key milestone for Transit, especially as we celebrate our centenary as a Ford dealer this year.”
Ken Macfarlane said: “It’s great to be here in Southampton as Transit reaches another significant milestone. In its lifetime this Plant has addressed many challenges and yet maintained the high quality of its product. This is made possible by a dedicated workforce and I thank them for that.”
There is a choice of three models for the limited edition Ford Transit:
All models have:
Important safety features are standard including ABS, ESP and driver airbag.
The name ‘Sapphire’ comes from the British tradition of naming wedding anniversaries and linking them to precious materials: 45 years is Sapphire.
